Farida Amadou + Marta Warelis (duo)

The opening evening of La Semaine du Son / De Week van de Klank features a special encounter with improvisations by musicians Farida Amadou (bass and electronics) and Marta Warelis (electronic keyboard).

Farida Amadou is a self-taught bassist based in Brussels, Belgium. Electric bass has been her main instrument since 2011. In 2013, she started playing a lot of different musical genres, including blues, jazz and hip-hop. Farida soon immersed herself in improvised and experimental music, and was quickly noticed by local groups and musicians. Shortly afterwards, in 2018, as the bassist of the Belgian punk band Cocaine Piss, she decided to focus on solo improvisation and began collaborations with musicians such as Thurston Moore, Peter Brötzmann, Julien Desprez, Jerusalem in My Heart, Moor Mother, … The focus of his work from 2021 to the present day.

Pianist Marta Warelis (1986) is a vibrant performer, born and raised in Poland, with a strong preference for improvisation and experimentation in all genres. She continually aims for instant composing on the basis of new sounds and influences. Her work draws inspiration from music across the globe including cumbia, Angolan dance music, as well as jazz, western classical music, and the various schools of free improvisation. She performs with a variety of creative musicians including Michael Moore, Ab Baars, Mike Reed, Andy Moor, Joost Buis, dancers Lily Kiara and Michael Shumacher, as well with such groups as Hupata!, Omawi, Future Neighbor, Polyband, Edge Ensemble, Strings5, Xavier Pamplona, Warelis/Rosaly/Lumley/Dikeman and Bazooka.
