Broebelaer

Broebelaer is a contemplative and meandering audiostory about the fountains of Brussels. Documentary, fiction and poetry meet each other in this original audio-essay.

Based on a lifelong fascination with water, sound artist Tibo Renodeyn immersed himself in the past, present and future of his hometown, searching for stories and places connected by springs, streams and fountains. The end result is a three-part chronicle of history, sound art, poetry, wonder and unique locations.

Broebelaer was created with the support of the BrusselSchrijft/Bruxelles’écrit subsidy from the City of Brussels, awarded by house of literature Passa Porta. Broebelaer is available as a podcast on Spotify. Original music by Céline Ottenburgh, mixing by Brecht Mertens.

Brussels-based audio artist Tibo Renodeyn‘s oeuvre highlights bizarre characters, mysterious places and forgotten tales. As a radio play specialist, he creates, and directs within audio collective Studio Klankzinnig. He was one of the co-creators of POSHA, VRT MAX’s first fiction podcast. Brussels is for him an endless source of inspiration, which he absorbs while strolling in the city. His works are a plea to keep mysteries in life, to believe in the unbelievable and to cherish wonder.
