Echoes of fragility

Echoes of fragility is an autonomous interactive art installation designed to experience the effects of global warming, particularly the melting of glaciers. This installation uses small pieces of safety glass that slide over a glass plate that is illuminated from below, causing the glass elements to sparkle. The glass plate can be made to vibrate by the viewer, causing the pieces of glass to fall onto a piezoelectric element and produce sound based on the sound of glaciers melting.

This installation invites visitors of all ages to experience the impact of glacier melt in an interactive and sensory way. Through the interplay of sound, movement, reflection and lighting, visitors are engaged in the urgency of climate change and encouraged to take action to protect our planet. The aim of this installation is to create awareness, arouse wonder and foster a sense of connection with nature and the future of our planet.

Fred Vercauteren is fascinated by technique and sound. Sounds of everyday objects, devices in operation become rhythmic songs in his head. He wants to share this experience with the viewer by creating interactive installations. Ideas are worked out with recovery materials and electronics. He likes to work ” In-situ ”: is inspired by the location.
