Rouge Cratère is a letter to Madagascar. Soa Ratsifandrihana probes the craters that make it up, from her experiences as a child of the Malagasy diaspora in France to her dance practice. Accompanied by women from the island, Soa paints a portrait of a Madagascar that has been demystified and is anchored in its own reality.
Through an “image” of the Malagasy queen Ranavalona I, the re-learning of a stammered language, the transmission of ancestral dances and the consolation to be found in our favourite dishes… Red Crater exposes some of the sounds, flavours and colours that shape the relationship we cultivate with our heritage.
This radiophonic creation thus appears as an exploration of the consequences of colonialism on bodies, stories and what is intimate. It is an invitation to free oneself from the weight of shame and go beyond the silence of history.
It is a fable-documentary that seeks to renew a dialogue between an island, its diaspora and progeny, where the right to exist “in between” erupts from every fissure.
Accompanied by women from the island, Soa Ratsifandrihana paints a portrait of a Madagascar that has been demystified and anchored in its own reality.
