Resonant Bodies

Resonant Bodies is a performance of music by John Luther Adams, an American composer described as “one of the most original musical thinkers of the new century” by Alex Ross.

An hour long piece for live percussion and electronics, The Mathematics of Resonant Bodies, is set as an installation with light design and projection, where the audience can move freely, and experience Adams’ music, as well as his writings and thoughts. John Luther Adams invites us to slow down, pay attention, and remember our place within the larger community of life on earth.

Resonant Bodies wishes to enforce exactly that: slow down, listen, observe, pay attention and come out slightly changed or more aware of what one can do for the better of us all. In Adams’ words: “If we can imagine a culture and a society in which we each feel more deeply responsible for our own place in the world, then we just may be able to bring that culture and that society into being.”

Kaja Farszky is a percussionist who is active as a soloist but also collaborates with chamber ensembles, orchestras, artists from different fields such as dance, theatre, and visual arts.

Dedicated both to contemporary repertoire and to improvised music, her artistic life is strongly linked to new work and is stimulated by the inspiring energy of extra-musical concepts. With percussion instruments as her mode for self-expression, she feels there are no limits to what can be an instrument or which sounds are considered music: there’s only the question of what to do with a particular sound in a particular moment.
